Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi, for a state visit on Wednesday.
After a welcome ceremony at the airport, Erdogan headed for talks with Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvilli.
The two are expected to discuss various issues of cooperation and strategic interest, including the construction of the controversial 4.5 billion (b) US dollar oil pipeline from the Caspian Sea to Turkey.
The underground pipeline will take oil from Baku, in Azerbaijan, through Tbilisi, to the port of Ceyhan in Turkey, from where it can be shipped to Western markets.
The Caspian sea is estimated to hold energy reserves bigger than those in the United States and the North Sea and is widely seen as a useful possible alternative to Middle East oil.
