Lacquer-dyed velvet flowers are a traditional Chinese handicraft that combines natural silk with mineral pigments and lacquer techniques, creating delicate blossoms with rich colors and soft textures.

First, natural purple mineral pigment is mixed with lacquer, stirred thoroughly, and finely ground into a smooth paste. The mixture is then filtered through cotton cloth to produce pure dye. The same process is repeated for other colors.

Silk cocoons are heated and unwound into silk fibers, which are then soaked overnight in hot water with alkali to remove impurities. After rinsing and drying, the silk is combed, wound, and finely cut to form soft, fluffy fibers.

The silk is then folded, flattened, and carefully cut into flower shapes. Finally, each silk flower is dipped into the lacquer-based dyes to absorb vibrant colors, then dried and shaped. Through the artisan’s careful craftsmanship, the silk transforms into radiant velvet flowers — colorful, glossy, and full of life, embodying the beauty of traditional Chinese artistry.
