What is Friction?

When one surface is moving over another surface, a force comes into play and opposes their relative motion.

Friction is a force that opposes motion between any surfaces that are touching. Friction can work for or against us.

For the different direction of motion, we can say that,
If force is applied to an object in the direction of motion, it speeds up.
If force is applied on an object opposite to the direction of motion, it slows down and eventually stops.

Now we derived Friction Force.

Friction Force:

If an object moves on a surface, the surface applies a force on the object in the direction opposite to its direction of motion. This force is called the friction force.

The direction of Friction:

Friction acts in the direction to the direction of motion.

Cause of Friction:

The friction force is caused due to interlocking of irregularities of the surface of two objects in contact.
