CityStream: One Seattle Plan Battles a Surge in Graffiti
A surge in graffiti has multiple city departments working to clean up the mess. Some people view graffiti as artistic expression, while others say its vandalism. No matter how it’s perceived, the city is working to tackle the problem since nearly 70% of reported graffiti targets city property. Seattle Public Utilities, Parks and Recreation, and the Department of Transportation are all working on the issue. Plus, Seattle Police and the city attorney’s office are bolstering enforcement. Seattle residents can also lend a hand. As Tatevik Aprikyan reports, the city has special abatement kits for those willing to volunteer their time to paint out graffiti.
