Shawn Michaels vs Kurt Angle at WrestleMania 21 was the dream match that didn't only live up to the hype, but it surpassed it.

When Raw's Shawn Michaels eliminated Smackdown's Kurt Angle from the 2005 Royal Rumble, fans tuned in to see if the WWE were going to go ahead and book a HBK vs Angle dream match. At this point, Angle and Michaels had never wrestled eachother, and the very first time they would lock up would be at WrestleMania 21.

The buildup to Michaels vs Angle was short but extremely well done. Kurt Angle said he was bothered by everyone talking about Shawn Michaels in 1996 when Angle won Olympic Gold. To prove he was better than Shawn, Angle promised to relive some of Shawn's biggest career moments in the runup to WrestleMania. This included a ladder match, a meeting with Marty Jannetty, and the well remembered "Sexy Kurt" rendition of Shawn Michaels' theme song with Sensational Sherri.
