Donald Trump announced that US and Nigerian forces eliminated senior ISIS leader Abu-Bilal al-Minuki in Nigeria. Al-Minuki, also known as Abu-Mainok, was considered the second-in-command of ISIS globally and had been under US sanctions since 2023. Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu described the mission as a ‘daring joint operation’ that dealt a heavy blow to ISIS. Nigerian authorities said Al-Minuki oversaw ISIS-linked operations across the Sahel and West Africa and was linked to attacks on minority communities as well as the 2018 Dapchi schoolgirls kidnapping.
