PACER Project: Blood Flow Restriction

Larry Cahalin, PT, PhD & Johnny Owens, PT collaborated on this contribution to the APTA’s PACER Project. Within they discuss how BFR could potentially be used to improve the restoration of health for persons recovering from the sequelae of COVID-19.

The PACER Project is an initiative of multiple APTA Sections & Academies to be a resource to increase practitioner proficiency in cardiovascular and pulmonary (CVP) physical therapy, including critical illness sequelae. Additionally, the clients with COVID-19 most likely to need physical therapy management are those who are elderly and/or possess chronic health issues, such as diabetes, COPD, hypertension, and coronary heart disease. These educational courses are intended to educate physical therapy and other rehabilitation clinicians.
