৭৯, ৯১, ২০২৬...দেশের রাজনীতিতে যা শুধু ক্যালেন্ডারের সংখ্যা নয়। জাতীয়তাবাদী ধারার তিনটি ‘প্রথম’ জয়। যা বদলে দিয়েছে ক্ষমতার মানচিত্র, রাজনৈতিক ভাষা ও নেতৃত্বের ইতিহাস। এসব জয়ে আলোচনা একটাই, কীভাবে একই রাজনৈতিক পরিবারের তিন নেতা প্রথম সুযেগেই স্থান করে নিয়েছেন ক্ষমতার ইতিহাসে?
সাবেক রাষ্ট্রপতি জিয়াউর রহমান দেশের ক্রান্তি লগ্নে 'বাংলাদেশ জাতীয়তাবাদী দল' গঠন করে প্রথমবার সংসদ নির্বাচনে অংশ নেয়। জিয়াউর রহমানের নেতৃত্বে বিএনপি সেসময় ৩০০ আসনের মধ্যে বিজয়ী হয় ২০৭ আসনে। যা দুই তৃতীয়াংশেরও বেশি। এই জয়ের পেছনে ছিল জিয়াউর রহমানের ‘১৯ দফা’ কর্মসূচি। .গ্রামমুখী উন্নয়ন, উৎপাদন বৃদ্ধি ও তৃণমূল ভিত্তিক রাজনীতি জোরদারের প্রতিশ্রুতি।
এই গল্প ঘুরে যায় ১৯৯১ সালে। স্বৈরাচার এরশাদের .দীর্ঘ সামরিক শাসনের অবসানের পর অনুষ্ঠিত জাতীয় সংসদ নির্বাচনে বিএনপি সর্ববৃহৎ দল হিসেবে আত্মপ্রকাশ করে বিএনপি। ৩০০ আসনের মধ্যে দলটি পায় ১৪০টি । সরকার গঠনে তারা পায় জামায়াতে ইসলামীর সমর্থন। ওই সরকারে বেগম খালেদা জিয়া শপথ নেন বাংলাদেশের প্রথম নারী প্রধানমন্ত্রী হিসেবে। স্বৈরশাসনবিরোধী জনমতকে কার্যকর রাজনৈতিক সমর্থনে রূপ দিতে পেরেছিল দলটি । এই সফলতার পিছনে ছিল নেতৃত্বের অনড় অবস্থান ও সাংগঠনিক সমন্বয়।
