野田村・下安家漁港に押し寄せる津波 【視聴者提供映像】

岩手県九戸郡野田村の南側、普代村との村境付近にある、下安家(しもあっか)漁港を襲った津波の様子を捉えた映像。地元で漁業を営む澤口克男氏が撮影。
撮影地点は、国道45号線と安家川(あっかがわ)が交差する下安家大橋の上。
大地震のあと、漁港に係留していた船が心配になり、避難先から海岸を臨める位置(大橋)までやってきた撮影者。
漁港付近を見下ろすと、すでに波の高さや潮の流れが、にわかに変化していた。
引き波のあと、急激に波が高くなったことで、津波の第1波到達を感知したものの、撮影者も、まだこの時点で「ことの重大さを推し量れなかった」と言う。
しかし、心の準備をする間もなく、状況は一変した。
北側遠方、野田湾・久慈市方面にカメラを向けると、遠目にも、すさまじい白波が、沿岸部に襲いかかっている様子を確認した。
カメラを再び漁港(南東方向)に転じると、もうすぐ目前にも、大きな白波が迫っている。
漁港の南側、やや沖に張り出した堤防の高さを、みるみるうちに超えてくる波。
事態の異常さを察知し、思わず「船がなくなってしまうよ!」と声を発する撮影者。
すさまじい勢いと高さで漁港に迫ってきた大波は、周辺の岩場や岸壁にぶつかって、大きく砕け散り、それらをことごとくのみ込みながら、白い激流と化して、一気に港内に押し寄せる。
撮影者自身が保有する船も含め、港の船置場にあった数隻の漁船が、あっという間に波にさらわれ、撮影者は、再び大きな悲鳴を発してしまう。
高台にある撮影地点のすぐ目前まで迫ってきた白波の勢いに、身の危険を感じた撮影者は、ここで、いったん撮影を中断し、避難所となっている近隣の国民宿舎「えぼし荘」へと避難。
避難後、少し時間をおいてから、再びカメラを回し、引き波の様子や周辺地域の被害状況などを映像に捉えた。

The video was recorded from Shimoakka-oohashi bridge where National route 45 and Akka river intersect.
Mr. Sawaguchi arrived at the bridge after the great earthquake, where he could overlook the coast from the evacuation area, concerned about the ships moored at the port.
Looking down near the port, Mr. Sawaguchi could already see the abrupt changes in the height of waves and flow of currents.
After the backwash, he realizes the arrival of the first tsunami by drastic changes in wave height, but recalls that he was "still unaware of its capacity" at this time.
Without a moment to spare, the situation undergoes sudden change. To the far north, over by Noda bay in the direction of Kuji city, the camera captures tremendous white crested waves invading the coast at a distance.
When the camera is aimed at the port (Southeast direction) again, imminent danger is clearly apparent.
White crested waves are reaching closer and closer to him. On the south side of the port, waves climbed over the embankment projected offshore within moments. Sensing the abnormality of the situation, Mr. Sawaguchi cries out, "All the boats will be taken!"
The large wave reaches ashore with great height and intensity, breaking into pieces and colliding into the surrounding rocky area of the quay wall. Swallowing such broken waves, the large wave turns into a white torrent, rushing at once to within the harbor.
All the fishing boats that were docked at the port including ones owned by Mr. Sawaguchi are taken by them in an instant. He can't help himself letting out a loud scream again.
Feeling his life on the line at the sight of white crested waves rushing in before him, Mr. Sawaguchi stops the video camera and evacuates to a nearby national lodge "Eboshisou" designated as one of the evacuation areas.
Taking refuge he once again begins to record the state of affairs after a while, such as the backwash and damages inflicted to surrounding neighborhoods.
