How to spend 3 days in Athens

How we spent 3 days in Athens?
We divided our daily itinerary into 3 sessions from morning, afternoon to evening.
- Day 1 upon arrival, we took the airport metro to the town and checked in at an Airbnb. Our first destination at the afternoon session is the Acropolis and its slopes. At the entrance counter, we bought the combo ticket which allows us to visit the 7 main attractions in Athens (included sites are the Acropolis, Ancient Agora, Hadrian’s Library, Kerameikos, Aristotle's School, Olympieon and Roman Agora) all for 30 euros. Hence, we spent the whole afternoon walking around from the hillside, checking out the mighty Parthenon and Erechtheion.
-In the evening, we walk from the Acropolis to Monastiraki Square, where we tried out the popular local food, souvlaki (which is pita wrapped with meat, veggie and french fries with sauces).

Day 2, The next day, our morning session starts at the changing of guards at Syntagma square which is located in front of the Hellenic Parliament building. We witnessed the Greek soldiers in their traditional pleated skirt uniform and shoes with toes tipped by a red or black ball. The changing of the guard occurs at the strike of every hour on a daily basis.
In the afternoon, we continued our historical trail with the combo ticket to visit the Hadrian Library, Roman Agora, Ancient Agora, Kerameikos, and Olympeion. The trail started by walking through Syntagma Square along Ermou Street and the Cathedral Church in the middle of the town. The Athens city walk is filled with the striking contrast between the bustling urban zone and the ancient Roman ruins from the history of civilization.

In the evening, we climbed up the Lycabettus Hill (which is the highest hill in Athens) within an hour. On top of the hill, there is a Greek whitewashed church of St George, the viewing platform is in front of the church. There we enjoyed the beautiful night scene of the city lights of Athens. Looking across in the distance is the spectacular view of the Acropolis hill and the Parthenon situated in the middle of bustling Athens.

Day 3, On the third day, we went to the Acropolis Museum, located nearby the Acropolis station. The Acropolis Museum is an archaeological museum that exhibits all the significant findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis and its foothills. We spent about 3 hours strolling through the galleries. Its collections are hosted across 3 levels, from the Gallery of Slopes of the Acropolis, Archaic Gallery, and Parthenon Gallery. From our experience, it is interesting to spend some time reading about the myth of different Greek Gods and to understand a bit more about the Goddess Athena, who is the guardian god of Athens city.

That is the last session on our itinerary as we have to catch our flight heading to the next destination. However, if you happen to have more time to visit this city, definitely check out other nearby attractions and allow yourself to discover a little bit more about this ancient city.
