How to SWAP out your DIFF (most noticeable performance mod I've ever done?)
This is an open differential swap. No LSDs were harmed in the making of this video because the cost to do so could not be justified.
NOTES
- A diff swap to a larger number is a force multiplier. Power output from the engine is the same, it's just utilized in a different way. Think of it like changing gears to a larger rear sprocket while riding a bike; you get better acceleration while sacrificing some top speed.
- Larger number = more driveshaft turns (potentially more acceleration if traction is available). This results in a lower top speed and higher cruising RPM in comparison to a lower number diff.
- GS300 = 3.92 (open)
- ARISTO TT = 3.77 (open)
- GS400/430 = 3.27 (open)
- SC options? (a 4.27 exists I hear, but that would be crazy!)
- In extremely rare cases you might be able to find an LSD ARISTO 3.77, but it's very rare and the only way to know is to go by the VIN, which is often not available.
- To install a quality LSD, you're looking at $1200 - $2000. Most of us cannot justify that type of cost for our power levels. Therefore this video is talking about open diffs but it will still show you the process to swap the entire assembly out and in.
- BONUS! If you have a GS400/430 diff, you can sell it for about $100, helping to offset the cost. Supra guys like this diff and that's who I sold my old one to.
- GS300 3.92 companion flange will not match ARISTO, GS400, GS430 diffs. Thus the companion flange MUST be swapped when swapping a GS300 diff in any way.
