The narcissist withholds sex a little bit at a time so that it goes unnoticed like a slow poison drip that eventually overflows the cup. The victim doesn't realize the narcissist is purposely withholding sex as a form of narcissistic emotional abuse and easily falls prey to their excuses and rather than ending the toxic relationship, they stay in it longer, suffering every day.
