Workshop: Protection Of Cultural Heritage in Emergency Situations

15 June 2017 00:00 to 16 June 2017 18:00

Venue: Erimtan Museum, Kale Mahallesi Gözcü Sokak No:10, Altındağ Ankara.

The British Institute at Ankara (BIAA), the American Research Institute in Turkey – Ankara (ARIT), the US Embassy in Ankara and the General Directorate for Heritage and Museums of the TC Ministry of Culture and Tourism are collaborating on a workshop entitled, ‘Acil Durumlarda Kültür Varlıklarının Korunması – Protection of Cultural Heritage in Emergency Situations’ on 15 and 16 June 2017 at the Erimtan Museum in Ankara.

The workshop is addressing strategies for protecting museums and heritage sites in instances of disaster with the aim to bring together international experts with specialists at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, museums, institutes and universities in Turkey. The event is addressing a wide range of issues that damage, even obliterate, cultural and historical heritage, especially considering the increased human-induced as well as potentially natural sources of hazard that Turkey's immediate neighbours experience. The presentations are aimed at discussing the variety of work carried out at different sites, museums and regions, with examples of case studies, and at generating constructive discussions with participants from key institutions. With the workshop, the primary aim is raising awareness of the potential problems that museums may face in emergency situations as well as offering indications of solutions.
