I Found a Hidden Room in My Basement. There Were Instructions on the Chair.

I bought an old house in Oregon. The previous owner died there — heart attack in the living room. I'm an engineer, so I checked the floor plan. Everything matched... except one wall in the basement. The blueprints showed a utility room that didn't exist. So I grabbed a tape measure.

Four feet. Four feet of space had vanished.

Behind a concrete wall and an old workbench, I found a door. A soundproofed room. A wooden chair with leather straps. And a painting of a green meadow, lit by a single dim bulb.

On the back of the chair, someone had scratched a message into the wood:

"SIT. LOOK AT THE MEADOW FOR 10 MINUTES. DO NOT BLINK. THEN CLOSE YOUR EYES."

I should have left. I didn't.

Now I'm three states away in a cheap motel, and the key I found in that room keeps appearing on my nightstand. And every night at 3:33 AM, the motel painting above my bed starts turning into that same meadow...
