2023 Ford Ranger Raptor: New V6 engine and 4x4 performance pickup ute revealed in detailed preview!

The Ford Ranger Raptor 2023 model has finally been uncovered, with the new flagship version of the new-generation Ford Ranger (#nextgenranger) adding plenty of performance cred to the equation.

The all-new 2023 Ford Ranger Raptor will dump the 2.0-litre bi-turbo diesel engine in favour of a beefy new 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 EcoBoost petrol engine, which is apparently going to offer up a 0-100km/h time of about 5.5 seconds. That's because the new engine has 292kW of power and 583Nm of torque - up significantly over the diesel model it replaces.

There is a 10-speed auto transmission, paddle shifters and a revised permanent four-wheel drive (4WD/4x4) system, too, not to mention an electronic on-demand two-speed transfer case, as well as front and rear locking differentials. There's also an optional beadlock wheel package for the serious off-road drivers out there.

It has completely revised Fox Shocks suspension, new electronic dampers, and more underbody protection for better off road capabilities. And there's a new Trail Control off-road cruise control system that should help you concentrate purely on steering through obstacles.

There are three on-road drive modes (Normal, Sport and Slippery) and four for off-road settings, (Rock Crawl, Sand, Mud/Ruts and Baja). Baja is new: basically, it allows for high-speed off-road performance, like a rally machine designed for rough terrain.

And the interior has taken a big step up in terms of trim and styling, plus gets a 12.4-inch digital instrumentation cluster, 12.0-inch portrait touchscreen with Ford’s Sync 4A multimedia system, wireless connectivity for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging, and Bang & Olufsen premium audio.

Further details, including pricing, driver-assist systems, fuel consumption, emissions ratings, crash-test performance, safety specification, equipment levels and accessories availability, will be announced closer to the Raptor’s release date.
