I use mainly Winsor and Newton professional colours, with a few Art Spectrum and Schmincke for variety. I am in the process of changing to Daniel Smith now, however, as their range of colours is very intense and transparent, which suits my style.
My current brushes are made by Drawell and come from Japan. I ordered them direct from the manufacturer. But any good watercolour brush will do fine. I prefer synthetic to sable as they are more long lasting and these days hold just as much water as a sable brush, plus they are also, and importantly, vegan.
I use a large lidded palette or if I don’t have one handy I use a large, white plastic tray. I also use small china dishes to mix individual colours in.

You can follow my method by watching the video. It’s basically very simple. Why not give it a try?

For the painting in this video I used the following materials:

An A4 (8" x 11") sheet of 140lb Bockingford watercolour paper. You could also use Bee, Arches, Fabriano, Canson or any other medium-priced paper. I find the Bockingford to be the most economical and perfect for wet in wet techniques.

I use Winsor & Newton and Daniel Smith colours, and also Schmincke and Sennelier. The colours I used in this painting are:
- Transparent Yellow (bright yellow)
- Quinacridone Gold (deep yellow / orange)
- Permanent Rose (pink)
- Dioxazine Violet (purple)
- Cobalt Blue (light blue)
- Sap Green (mid green)
- Burnt Sienna (rusty brown)

I use synthetic round brushes with a good point. I like Drawell but there are dozens of good brands - just avoid those meant for kids.

I like a propelling pencil but any HB or B is ideal. A good clean, soft eraser is also needed. (But be careful to make sure the painting is completely dry before erasing the pencil marks!)
