Forgiveness has been seen as the ultimate measure of relationship mending, either between us and God or us and another person. Yet, in the grand scheme of relationships forgiveness has been extended too many without relationships being restored. The Bible challenges us to go beyond forgiveness. If forgiveness was the act that preceded the restoration of relationships, then the forgiveness that Jesus extended on the cross restored relationships with his persecutors.
