Virtually all structures, whether commercial or government, are subject to an array of fire codes. These regulations are critical for ensuring safety, but factors in how they are written have introduced a wide variety of security weaknesses to most buildings. What do you do when the very systems designed to keep you safe actually increase your attack surface and risk of a breach?
This will be an overview of the most prevalent security risks posed by fire codes and examples of how to mitigate them. While many corporate facilities are obligated to abide by these rules no matter what, high-value government buildings are often able to obtain a variance that waives the riskiest requirements or otherwise allows augmented security, even when risk-of-life is a factor. You have the loopholes... so use them!
