Ideal Diode - Bypass The Voltage Drop For Perfect Signal Passthrough With An Op Amp - Simply Put

When you use a diode to pass a signal through, like in a half wave rectifier where you want to block the negative portion of the signal, the bottom of the signal is chopped off due to the diode's forward voltage drop. Using an op amp and a resistor, you can move the voltage drop to the rail, so instead of chopping off the bottom of the signal, it chops off the top due to reduced headroom. But if the signal never goes to the rail, then it passes through perfectly!
