Portuguese Flotilla Activists Allege Abuse After Release From Israeli Custody | VERTEX

Portuguese activists from the Global Sumud Flotilla returned home on Friday after being released from Ketziot Prison, days after Israeli authorities intercepted their boats as they attempted to challenge the naval blockade on Gaza.

Footage shows activists draped in Palestinian keffiyehs receiving a warm welcome at the airport in Porto, with crowds cheering, holding up banners and embracing their loved ones.

Following their return, activists detailed abuse they allegedly endured whilst in custody, claiming Israeli forces beat them and subjected them to 'psychological violence.'

"We counted 35 broken ribs, other broken limbs. A large number of people, like me, suffered nerve injuries in their hands due to the force used when tightening handcuffs and the prolonged time we remained in them," one activist said.
