This melody for "Ya Ribon" is a Jewish, Hassidic song. Most Hassidic songs came from the Ukraine because Hassidism originated there, hundreds of years ago with the Baal Shem Tov and remained there for generations to be spread throughout that part of Europe by his followers. "Ya Ribon" is a Jewish prayer and in it is this profound plea, "O God who has greatness and glory, rescue your flock from the mouth of the lion!" Since the melody is Jewish and Ukranian, we dedicate this to the people of the Ukraine, in their struggle for freedom and independence.
