Callanish | Exploring the Hyperborean Temple of the Far North | Megalithomania

An exploration of one of the most impressive megalithic sites in Britain. Located in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland, on the Isle of Lewis, Callanish (Calanais) was built around 5000 years ago, has a central circle of 13 stones with a menhir in the middle, and is surrounded by 4 avenues, shaped like a celtic cross. It has legends of the 'Shining Ones' with feathered robes building the site, as well a references to a mysterious cuckoo linked with the summer solstice, is aligned to the 18.6 year metonic moon cycle and is part of a massive complex of megalithic sites that stretch across the island. In legend, St Kieron turned giants to stone and that is how the circle was created! We visited the site during the equinox 2020 and were greeted to perfect weather.
