Engine Knock Induced Pontiac 350 Teardown from the Firebird Formula 350

With every start of the Pontiac 350 in our 1978 Firebird Formula 350 we knew what was coming. The engine knock sound kept getting worse and worse which could only lead to one thing - a complete teardown of the Pontiac 350 to figure out the cause, and fix for the engine knock.

We began with the time-intensive task of removing the engine from the Firebird. While this in itself isn't difficult these 2nd gen f-bodys have a long nose which typically blocks your engine hoist from getting easy reach of the engine. Another sore spot is the headers on Pontiac engines, they're difficult to get off but I HEAVILY recommend buying a set of stubby wrenches.

With the engine out and on the stand we could get at it - as we began pulling the engine apart we were blown away with how nice the parts were and how good of condition the inside of the engine was in. Even where the rod bearing crumbled the engine was still in good shape - we look forward to a rebuild of this engine.
