Water tales from Devanhalli - Groundwater and wells
Groundwater is the lifeline of semi arid India. Devanahalli near Bangalore is one such area. Dotted with many open wells now dry , farmers depend on bore-wells which have gone as deep as 1000 feet yet in many there is no water. The tanks which used to hold rainwater and allow it to percolate are now dysfunctional. Unless the whole system is restored and a cap place on extraction livelihoods of many will be threatened.
