How to Edit Star Photos with Lightroom 5: Star Photography in Mongolia
If you want to see the step-by-step information from this star photo edit, as well as the final product, check out my blog article here: http://www.brendansadventures.com/editing-star-photos-lightroom-5/
About the Video:
I had the awesome opportunity to travel to southern Mongolia last week. I made the most of it by shooting some star photography on a couple nights when the skies were clear. In the end, I'm happy with some of the star photos I managed to capture both in the Gobi Desert as well as Terelj National Park. I thought it would be a good opportunity to show you my method of editing star photos with lightroom 5. There is really clear info on my blog, but below are some basic steps.
1. Shoot the image. Obviously, any good star photo has to be shot right in the camera. I shot the image in this example at f/4. 30 Seconds, and ISO 1600.
2. Import the image into Lightroom 5: You can also run the same, or similar, processes in other versions of Lightroom.
3. Get the exposure: I added 1.79 stops of light to the image. I also toned down some of the harsh light in Lightroom 5 using the adjustments brush.
4. Reduce the Noise: This is optional. Obviously, if your star pictur isn't very noisy, you don't need to do this.
5. Bring out the Milky Way: You'll have to check out the video to see how I bring out the Milky Way using Lightroom 5.
6. Final touches to the star photo: Add vibrance, contrast and fix any other minor issues with the image and you've got a completed photo!
