China ‘certainly isn’t taking a backstep’ when it comes to its own coal capacity

Energy Economist Alan Moran says China “certainly isn’t taking a backstep” despite promising at the UN General Assembly to stop giving poor countries money for cheap coal-fired power stations.

Sky News host Andrew Bolt pointed out China is in the process of building more than 60 coal-fired power stations for its own energy.

“China has been providing a great deal of the world’s finance for coal and presumably will continue doing so for the power stations that are under construction or which are basically pending construction,” Mr Moran told Sky News host Andrew Bolt.

“Whatever it does though, China certainly isn't taking a backstep in terms of its own coal capacity.

“About half of the world’s capacity for coal power stations is in China; almost half of the new capacity under construction is in China.”
