William Barr urged to appoint special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden

Republican Congressman Ken Buck has urged US Attorney General William Barr to appoint a special counsel to investigate the actions and a forgotten laptop of Joe Biden’s son Hunter.

In the letter to Mr Barr, obtained by Fox News, Mr Buck said such an appointment was “critical” to ensuring investigation was “free from political interference”.

“Similar to when the DOJ appointed Special Counsel Robert S Mueller III, it is critical that this investigation continue free from political interference, no matter who is in the White House,” Mr Buck said.

“We must guarantee the integrity of our government and the security of our republic.

“As such, I urge the DOJ to appoint a special counsel to investigate Hunter Biden’s actions and the potentially incriminating contents of his laptop to ensure this important investigation will be completed.

“This investigation is critical to defending the integrity of our republic and ensuring a potential Biden Administration will not be the subject of undue foreign interference.

“Americans have the right to know whether Mr Biden’s reported ties to foreign governments will make him the subject of blackmail attempts or other nefarious efforts to undermine US national security or otherwise improperly influence American foreign policy.”

Hunter’s laptop and emails in question were first obtained by The New York Post in October, handed over by President Donald Trump's personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani.

One email revealed an alleged meeting between Joe Biden and an adviser to a corrupt Ukrainian energy company while he was vice president and his son Hunter was on the firm’s board.

The Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs also published a report titled ‘Hunter Biden, Burisma, and Corruption: The Impact on US Government Policy and Related Concerns’.

The report alleged the Obama administration knew Hunter Biden’s presence on the board of the corrupt Ukrainian energy company Burisma was “problematic” and “interfered” in the “execution of policy” with Ukraine.
