'Tolerance hurts' even for the AfD, says Ralf Knispel on the disrupted ARD interview

Ralf Knispel discusses the conduct of the Berlin police during the disrupted ARD summer interview with AfD politician Alice Weidel. He criticizes the authorities and the broadcaster for failing to intervene when protesters created excessive noise that hindered the interview. Knispel emphasizes that democratic rules must be followed, stating, 'Democracy and freedom of expression apply to everyone, even to people we might not like.' He points out that while protests are legitimate, the disruption crossed boundaries and could potentially be classified as coercion. Knispel notes that the police had sufficient personnel on site but merely issued requests to the disruptors, which proved ineffective. He asserts that the law must be applied equally, regardless of a person's political orientation, and that true tolerance requires protecting the rights of all political figures, including those from marginal or controversial parties.
