Jean Vanier said, “Welcome is one of the signs that a community is alive. To invite others to live with us is a sign that we aren’t afraid, that we have a treasure of truth and of peace to share.” Not only was hospitality a pillar of morality in the ancient world of the Bible, it was a unique way in which the gospel was lived out and shared in the early church. It may be that recapturing the rich practice of hospitality is part of the solution for once again becoming a vibrant church.
