The first step is to find appropriate podcasts in your niche. There are a few ways to do this, you can start by looking at the podcasts you already listen to, ask your readers, customers or clients what podcasts they enjoy and search for podcasts on iTunes related to your niche. Once you have a list of potential shows to pitch, you need to make yourself ready to pitch them. This is where your one sheet comes in. A one sheet is a single page, beautifully designed document that includes your photo (a professional headshot), your bio, topics you can talk on, a short list of questions the podcast host can ask you, and your contact information. You can also include links to other media appearances you’ve made, if any.

It can also contain links to other media appearances you’ve made, if any. This is all designed to make it easy for the podcast host to say “YES” to you. Once you have your one sheet ready, you can start reaching out to podcast hosts. You can do this by listening to a few of the shows, making thoughtful comments on their podcast blog, following the hosts and/or shows on social media, liking their posts and sharing episodes on social media. According to my friend and podcast guest Tom Schwab, once you do this kind of activity for a couple of weeks, then you reach out to the host with a pitch of what you can bring to the show.
