M/S Estonia - Investigation Dive into Cabins 4/12-94

Investigation dive by Commercial diving company Rockwater on behalf of the swedish government. This dive was made about two months after the catastrophical sinking. 852 people died, among them men, women, children and elderly.

In this video the divers have just cut a whole in the side of the ship and enter a cabin. They then go through the door of the cabin and enter the cabin on the opposite side of the hallway(cabin 6130). One of the diver reports in the first cabin (6129) seeing ”lots of sediment coming up that looks like bits of flesh” just as he opens the cabin door leading to the hallway.

Once in the hallway the diver reports that he possibly can see people there after which you can see a human foot very clearly at 13:40 which they must have missed to cut out when they censored the tapes.

Only 34 people were rescued just short after the sinking by another passenger-ferry called Mariella which had been in contact with Estonia during the sinking, but the storm made the other liferafts drift away from Mariella. This resulted in the remaining people in the sea and in the liferafts having to endure 5 hours of wait in freezing cold water in a great storm until the rescue helicopters could arrive early during the morning. Many people died from hypothermia during these hours. Only another 104 people were rescued by the helicopters.

Estonia is lying with her right side to the seabed at a depth ranging from 60-80m in the Baltic Sea.

Note that there is a cut at 11:54 indicating that the diver encountered a body/bodies upon entering the hallway.
