Levy Lecture: Megan Wells Presents Ray Bradbury's "Dandelion Wine"
Megan Wells is a storyteller and performer. As Artistic Director of the Ray Bradbury Storytelling Festival, she has been granted rights by the author to tell his work.
Dandelion Wine is set in the summer of 1928 in Green Town, Illinois, based on Bradbury's childhood in Waukegan, Illinois. The main character in the novel is 12-year old Douglas Spaulding, loosely based on the author.
The novel is the first of three "autobiographical fantasies" written by Bradbury. The themes of the novel include the wonders of childhood, fear and acceptance, growing old, and death. Some literary critics consider Dandelion Wine to be Bradbury's masterpiece.
