What is the INTERIOR DESIGN RULE OF 3? How to decorate your home using the rule of thirds!

In this video I explain how interior designers use the rule of thirds, or the rule of three, to create beautifully balanced and cohesive spaces. Our brains naturally love to see things asymmetrical, and by grouping your decor and your designs in 3 you take the guesswork out of planning your home. In this video I go into specific ways that you can apply this rule in your home so that it looks balanced and interesting. Here are some specific ways that are discussed in the video:

Group decor pieces in 3's - stack books or group vases in 3's to create symmetry and create interest on a coffee table or a media console.

Create a focal point with 3's - By bringing in 3 of something, you instantly create a focal point on the object in the middle, or the largest object. Play around with size and texture to add emphasis to the central object, with 2 balanced pieces next to it.

Plan art or panel moulding in 3's - One piece of art is ok, but group 3 coordinated pieces together and your space just became a lot more interesting!

Bring in accent colours in 3's - If you want to bring in a pop of color, don't just bring it in with one piece of art with that color. Complement the color with 2 other pieces in the room of the same color to make the space look more cohesive.

Group lighting in 3's - Looking at hanging beautiful pendants above a kitchen island? Try bringing in 3 pendants instead, to make the statement more grand while also balanced.
