Amber Scorah: Leaving the Witness

Amber Scorah’s book, "Leaving The Witness: Exiting a Religion And Finding A Life" describes her experiences growing up in the Jehovah’s Witnesses faith — and then leaving it all behind.

“Being raised a Jehovah’s Witness means that you didn’t participate in a lot of things that other people do, because in a group like this it works well to keep people in, and to create this separation between the people on the inside who have the truth and then the others out there,” Scorah says. “So there were certain things that Jehovah’s Witnesses picked out of the bible many years ago, like that birthdays should not be celebrated. And that Christmas is not really Jesus birthday and it’s pagan.”
