Best birthday present I've ever made - Restoration of a broken KitchenAid
#restoration #kitchenaid #birthdaypresent
Hey welcome to my channel.
This video is very special to me because it was my most elaborate do it yourself project so far.
My girlfriend has her birthday in May and because she is a passionate hobby baker I wanted to make her a very special diy birthday gift.
A kitchenaid ultrapower ksm90 I found on the electrical scrap of my neighborhood.
Of course I did not want to give a broken and extremely dirty kitchen machine. The machine had some problems. The paint had peeled off, the controls were broken. It was bent from a fall and it was stuck in the highest gear and ran very unevenly and noisily.
After removing all the dirt from the kitchen aid and disassembling the machine, i was able to start restoring the ksm90 to a very special gift.
I started the restoration by removing the old paint with the sandblaster. After the aluminum mold was completely exposed, i was able to dent it and repaint it in her favorite color. I chose a deep purple color that I was sure she would like very much.
All the metal shafts were in good condition and fully nickel plated, so all I had to do was polish them up.
All the gears were cold blued after cleaning to seal the rust.
The restoration of the control levers was more complex. Since the original heads of the levers were broken off, I decided to make new ones out of wood.
I chose ebony and sapeli, an african mahogany wood, as the starting materials. These noble woods do the most justice to the american icon.
After gluing the woods together, i was able to shape them into three beautiful semi-circular heads. In the end i polished them and covered them with a layer of epoxy resin for hygienic reasons.
Before assembling, it was time for a beer test. This time I had a bottle of budweiser - budvar from the czech republic to test. An outstanding beer that many in the grocery store would confuse with the american budweiser brand.
In the end, I reassembled all the parts and was able to give away a beautifully restored kitchenaid. My girlfriend was extremely happy about this gift. I wish her all the best.
