Senate confirmation of Judge Barrett to be 'one of the fastest in US history'

New York Columnist Miranda Devine says the Democrats have been completely unable to mount an argument against the confirmation of Judge Amy Coney Barrett, which is set to be one of the speediest in the history of United States Supreme Court confirmations.

Senate Republicans are poised to confirm President Trump’s nominee Judge Barrett in a few hours after a unanimous decision by the Senate Committee last week .

Ms Devine described the process as one of the “fastest” confirmations of a Supreme Court Judge.

Final confirmation would be a major victory for the president and is anticipated to occur just one week before election day.

If confirmed, it would entrench a 6-3 conservative majority on America's highest court.

When speaking to Senate colleagues about Judge Barrett's nomination, Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell said Republicans are making "an important contribution to the future of this country."

"A lot of what we have done over the last four years will be undone sooner or later by the next election," Mr McConnell said.

"It won’t be able to do much about this for a long time to come.”

As tension over the United States election outcome escalates, Ms Devine said Judge Barrett could play a decisive role concerning any election disputes brought before the court.
