John Denver performed three concerts at the Jesse Jones Hall for the Performing Arts in Houston, Texas with the Houston Symphony Orchestra in September 1997. These three shows were the last of John Denver's concerts with a full band; he would do three more solo acoustic concerts before his tragic death a few weeks later. This is the performance on the second night, and is the best sounding one among the three.
It may sound strange, but there are at least three different audience tapers who recorded this concert. I've heard three different recordings. I decided to keep the one with the best sound quality, but as there are some gaps in that copy, I managed to fix the gaps with the other two recordings. So you may notice some brief sound quality changes in "Children of the Universe", "The Foxfire Suite" and the introduction to "Yellowstone".
The encore for this concert is "Yellowstone, Coming Home", a song written for a PBS TV special called "Let This Be a Voice". Finished a month prior to his plane crash, it was the last song John Denver had ever written. The song was never released, but a home studio demo version of the song can be heard on the PBS TV show.
It's interesting to mentioned that, John didn't do any covers as he usually did in this concert. All songs performed on these three nights are John Denver songs.
I might upload the other two shows too if there are folks interested. The sound quality of those two is really not so good. You can visit my "John Denver Setlist Archive" page at http://ddpro.ucoz.com/setlists/johndenver/ for more information. The setlists of all John Denver recordings I know will all be posted there.
