Yoda changed Star Wars FOREVER

In 1980 Star Wars Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back released in theaters. It was a stark departure from the swashbuckling adventuring and simple morality of the first film in the saga, and the weight of the creative choices made on this one movie still ripple throughout mainstream filmmaking to this day.

In this video I explore how the character of Yoda, and his thematic relevance drastically changed the trajectory of the franchise, and how it has weathered the changing status and expansion of the franchise and culture in the 40 years since it's release. The tone and feeling of this movie is forever changed by the existence of the prequel trilogy, the sequels, the clone wars, etc, for better or for worse.
