Abraham, Martin and John - Dion (1968)

"Abraham, Martin and John" is a moving tribute to three great American leaders who were assassinated: Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), John F. Kennedy (1917-1963), and Martin Luther King Jr. (1929-1968). Robert F. Kennedy, also assassinated in 1968, is referenced at the end of the song. Today, I pray for God to raise up wise leaders of our nation who would uphold the Constitution and pursue justice and equality for all men.

"Those who deny freedom to others deserve it not for themselves; and under the rule of a just God, cannot long retain it." Abraham Lincoln

"My fellow Americans, ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country." John F. Kennedy

"Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness." Martin Luther King Jr.

"Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy." Proverbs 31:8-9 (ESV)
