Priti Patel holds today's UK government coronavirus press conference at Downing Street.
She was joined by Martin Hewitt, Chair of the National Police Chiefs' Council and Stephen Powis, National Medical Director of NHS England.
Priti Patel has started the daily Government briefing from Downing Street. It is her first time leading the press conference.
She has started by repeating the figures that have been released today. She added:
"Our priority is to slow the spread of coronavirus so that fewer people are sick at any one time and our brilliant NHS remains able to do cope.
"As this virus continues to devastate families across the nation my thoughts, prayers and heartfelt condolences are with their family, friends and loved ones."
She adds that the Prime Minister, who remains in hospital, is making good progress.
