Metal Detecting "Investigation" Of A (Modified) Hollow Way

I've spotted an old path on my way up and decided to investigate it. Instant finds confirmed my decision, although nothing looked promising at first due to a thick layer of humus.

The pocket watch surprised me, but its shallow position (above a hole) looked a little bit "suspicious". I had the impression, that someone else already found it (a few years ago) and threw it away. On the other hand, who would do that...

What followed was a series of finds connected to WWII. Buttons from soldiers uniform and an ID tag close to it would usually indicate activities from this era. Not necessarily...
The uniform could have been dumped after the war, together with ID tags by the man who participated in the war, or more likely by his family afterwards. The more interesting bit is probably the folded piece of zinc and the fact that this could be another ID tag.

In this case what would be the reason for a soldier to carry a ID tag that belonged to someone else? According to a brief (online) research, the 137th regiment operated on the Eastern front. Maybe the soldier came back home with an ID tag that belonged to a fallen friend. Is this a plausible version? Who knows, it makes sense to me...

When I found the deep target and it turned to be a (relatively) modern ax/hammer below inches of red soil, I knew what was up... The surface was modified, a thick layer of soil shifted probably from above. The depth of the ax indicated the surface of this hollow way XX years ago, which means that any smaller find was out of reach for my metal detector (at least at this particular patch).

At the beginning of the hollow way the opposite seemed the case. It looked like the soil has been stripped away. It must have been done before 1945, as finds from this era indicate, but not very long before this point.

After "connecting the dots" I decided to move up sideways and take a look at one of the slopes. It wasn't a bad move, I went straight to a buckle (probably made of pewter). I really would have to guess how old it is. 1700's? (maybe even 1800's?).

Once on top, I run out of time and my pollen allergy made the whole experience more and more unpleasant, so I gave up after a brief look.

It was a memorable relic hunt, I hope you had fun.

Thanks for watching.
