Are you an aspiring poet, or a poetry fan? The Publishing Humanities Initiative held a special Zoom session on how poets launch their poetry into the vibrant and growing world of poetry publishing, from handmade chapbooks to independent book and journal publishers, university presses, podcasts, and social media. This expert panel offers advice on writing, publishing, and building communities of kindred spirits in poetry.

Speakers are:
•Suzanna Tamminen is the Director and Editor in Chief of Wesleyan University Press.

•Peter Gizzi is the author of Now It’s Dark (Wesleyan, 2020), Sky Burial: New and Selected Poems (Carcanet, UK 2020), Archeophonics (Wesleyan, 2016), In Defense of Nothing: Selected Poems 1987-2011 (Wesleyan, 2014), among other books, as well as chapbooks and artist’s books. He has been on the faculty of numerous prestigious writing programs including the Iowa Writer’s Workshop; he currently works at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.

•Han VanderHart is the reviews editor at EcoTheo Review, an editor of Moist Poetry Journal, and host of the podcast Of Poetry. They are the author of the poetry chapbook Hands like Birds (Ethel Zine Press, 2019) and the poetry collection What Pecan Light (Bull City Press, Spring 2021); Han has 11,000 followers on Twitter, which they use as a poetry commonplace book @hmvanderhart.

•Ross White is the author of the chapbooks The Polite Society and How We Came Upon the Colony, as well as the micro-chapbook sin Wave. His poems have appeared in several well-known journals such as American Poetry Review. He is the Executive Director of Bull City Press, a Durham-based literary press focusing on chapbooks of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction, as well as the Editor of Four Way Review. He teaches in the English and Comparative Literature department at UNC Chapel Hill.

Moderated by Joseph Donahue, Duke English Department. His poetry collections include Wind Maps I-VII (forthcoming 2019) and Red Flash on a Black Field (Black Square Editions, 2015), as well as Musica Callada (forthcoming), Dark Church (Verge Books, 2015), Dissolves (Talisman House, 2012), and Terra Lucida (Talisman House, 2009), which are sections of the ongoing poem Terra Lucida.
