Though the most popular English version of this hymn dates back to 1912, the ancient Irish poem from which it comes is at least 1000 years old, written possibly as early as the 8th century.

Knowing that these words have inspired Christian believers for centuries makes them especially meaningful to our family. Though we have no evidence that our ancestors knew this song, for this video we chose to imagine that they did, and that they sang together while going about their daily activities, as we often do.

Though our costuming is not professional, we have tried to represent the following time periods and cultures from our heritage:
1) Celtic Britons, about 1270
2) Germanic Saxons, about 1470
3) Anglo-Americans settling in New England, about 1670.
Some of our earliest American ancestors were Thomas Minor and Grace Palmer, who helped settle Stonington, Connecticut in the 1650's and founded a church there.
4) Scandinavian immigrants to the American West, about 1870. We have ancestors who immigrated from Sweden, Denmark, and Norway to gather in Utah with other members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our Johnson surname was anglicized from the Swedish "Johansson" during that immigration process.
5) American girls wearing parochial school uniforms, about 1970. We and many of our ancestors have attended religious schools or participated in religious education programs outside of school.
6) Abby and Annalie as ourselves, in 2020. We do not sing songs of faith because our parents make us sing them. We are all believers.

Note: You may have noticed that Abby has braces on her teeth in our Frozen 2 video but not in this one. This video was filmed last fall but we waited for an Easter release.
