Elvis Presley - Got my mojo working (restored undubbed master)

For promotional purposes only. Elvis die-hards will know that Got My Mojo Working was recorded during the marathon sessions held in Nashville on June 4-8, 1970, and that something went wrong at the beginning of the song. Whatever the reason, Elvis and the band were temporarily out of sync for about 30 seconds and somehow never felt the need to start over. As a result, the final master begins with this, well, awkward fade-in right after Elvis and the band were in perfect sync again.

At the time, starting the final master this way must have seemed the only solution and I can see why. But... after another listen to the uncut recording (thank you, FTD), I was reminded of a couple of unused instrumental bars - the band warming up or waiting for Elvis to be ready - and that's when I had a brainwave: there was a way for this song to have a beginning. I had been an Elvis fan for 46 years and counting when I finally saw how it could be done.

Now, as for the problems with the master:
1. There is no beginning.
2. There's a horrible cut 37 seconds into the recording with drums at different speeds.
3. The same part of the song is used twice and clearly noticeable at 1:03 and 2:46 (dubbed master), maybe to make up for the moment when Elvis started swearing in jest and that part of the song couldn't be used.
4. Towards the end of the recording the bass and drums are a bit out of sync.

As said, I always wanted this song to start more gracefully and now it does for the very first time. I'm sure some of you fanatics will be able to figure out how this version was (painstakingly) put together. Originally, I wanted to combine the dubbed master with the newly put together beginning, but the mix was just too different and the sound didn't match. So what I did was first restore the undubbed master (no swearing, no awful cut, no needless repetition), then added the new beginning as well as some of the overdubbed bass/brass parts and, toward the end, some of the backing vocals. While it is true that producer Felton Jarvis had way too much of a thing for overdubs, I feel that the added backing vocals, bass and brass made the song even more energetic. But I kept everything to a minimum. I couldn't do anything about problem no. 4, though. Oh well...

Anyway, It took me an entire weekend of near headaches, but Elvis deserves every single second of it.

I hope you like it.
