Getting back into art after burnout was very difficult for me. It seemed like every time I tried to draw again, I would get frustrated with myself and make it a bad time. So I quit drawing for 4 months to try and solve the problem. While it was nice to take some time away from drawing, I knew there was no way I could restore my relationship with art by avoiding it. Perfectionism and a lack of compassion towards myself had turned my relationship with art toxic. Focusing on a quantity goal (finishing my sketchbook) rather than a quality goal (making a ‘good’ drawing) was key for me to release the expectations I had behind creating. ✨
