Series KiHa20 Diesel Railcars on Shimabara Railway

Series KiHa20 DMU is one of the general purpose passenger diesel railcars developed by Japan National Railways in 1957. Until 1966, over 400 railcars were built. Most of them were scrapped by the privatization of Japanese National Railway in 1987. But some of them were sold or donated for some regional private railways, and remained alive until 2000s. The footages in this movie were taken in 2005 and 2006, Shimabara railway had been using them for the additional services in the morning and evening. In 2008, the south half part of the railway was abolished, and also KiHa20s were ended services at that time. The railway was located along the Ariake Sea, so we could enjoy beautiful seaside landscape through the train window.
