What if I Get Denied for a Personal Credit Card?
Do not despair if you get a denial!
Many people get their decision reversed just by calling the Chase Reconsideration line and speaking to a rep. Nobody likes appealing their case, but it's a must do for travel hackers.
If your credit score is below 650, work on improving your credit with Chase’s free Credit Journey or Credit Karma.
Chase will also not approve you for a card if your total credit limits across all cards in your name is more than 50% of your income.
If it’s above 650 or so, I want you to call in and ask for a reconsideration on your credit card application: 888-270-2127.
Tell them you recently applied for a card, was not approved for it, and was hoping to get that decision reconsidered. A rep will ask you some basic household income information. Explain why you were interested in the card. If you have another Chase card, you could ask if some credit from that old card could be transferred to this new card.
Even if you receive another denial, many travel hackers have had success with calling again one or two additional times.
