In a world that is increasingly digital, polarized, and fragmented, organizations like Rotary remind us of the enduring value of friendship, service, and shared purpose. I discuss economic uncertainty, housing affordability, productivity, AI, democracy, and social trust, while introducing my concept of The Power of Co—the idea that thriving communities are built through cooperation, conversation, compassion, collaboration, and connection. Using examples from Mississauga and cities around the world, I argue that the future belongs to places that build not only infrastructure and housing, but also belonging, trust, and human relationships. Because ultimately, great cities are not defined by buildings alone. They are defined by whether people feel connected to one another and invested in a shared future.
