Aizuri Quartet Performs "Freight Train" by Elizabeth Cotten
In their latest lab experiment, 2022 WQXR Artist Propulsion Lab members @aizuriquartet5246 created a stop-motion music video for their recording of the timeless folk song, "Freight Train."
Written in the early years of the 20th century, "Freight Train" is one of Elizabeth “Libba” Cotten's most beloved and well-known songs. This re-imagination of the song for string quartet and voice by the Aizuri Quartet’s cellist Karen Ouzounian is accompanied by animation artist Lembit Beecher’s stop-motion film, in which a paper train comes to life and rolls through a suddenly magical world of clay, paper and household objects.
