Debian vs RHEL: Which Linux Distro Is Actually Faster?

I deploy Debian 12 and Red Hat Enterprise Linux 9 on Google Cloud and run real-world performance benchmarks to compare them under identical conditions.

We test:

Web server performance using wrk
PostgreSQL database performance using pgbench
Disk I/O performance using fio

The goal is not opinions — but measurable data under real workloads.

Results show that:

Web performance is nearly identical between both systems
Debian performs better in PostgreSQL transactional workloads
RHEL shows a slight advantage in disk I/O performance
